AI Meeting Notes That Follow You Off Microsoft Teams (Copilot Alternative)
In this edition of the 🧭 Microsoft 365 Compass 🧭 newsletter, we're looking at what happens to your Copilot meeting notes the moment someone outside your organization sends you a Zoom or Google Meet invite instead of a Teams link.
If you've been using Copilot to take notes in Teams, you already know how convenient it is. But Copilot lives inside the Microsoft ecosystem, and the second a client, vendor, or external stakeholder books you into a call on a different platform, Copilot simply isn't there. For anyone who regularly works across platforms, that's a real gap, not just an edge case.
What Is Fellow?
Fellow AI is an AI meeting notetaker that captures, transcribes, and summarizes meetings across Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet, keeping every recap in one searchable place regardless of which platform the meeting happened on. It syncs with your calendar automatically, so meetings are detected without any manual setup on your end.
One detail worth calling out is botless capture. Most AI notetakers join meetings as a visible bot participant, which can feel intrusive, especially in a client or external stakeholder call. Fellow can capture and transcribe a meeting without ever appearing in the attendee list, so the conversation stays exactly as it would without it.
Where Fellow Fits for Teams Users
You don't lose anything by using Fellow inside Teams. It captures Teams meetings the same way Copilot does, with automatic summaries, action items, and topic breakdowns. The difference shows up the moment your calendar includes a meeting outside Teams. Fellow follows you there too, and those notes land in the same library as everything else, so you're not switching tools depending on who sent the invite.
For anyone using Teams daily but working with external partners on other platforms, that's the practical value: one system instead of a patchwork of whatever each meeting happens to support.
Instead of walking through every step in this edition, I've published a full video walkthrough that shows Fellow in action from start to finish.
In the video, I cover:
- Setting up Fellow and configuring botless recording
- Capturing a real Microsoft Teams meeting, notes and all
- Capturing a Google Meet call the same way, to show the cross-platform capture in practice
- Ask Fellow, a natural language search across your entire meeting history
- Fellow's security setup, including SOC 2 Type II certification and AES-256 encryption

Try Fellow AII for Free
Fellow offers a free trial if you want to test it yourself before committing. No need to take my word for it, since you can put it in front of your own meetings and see how the notes compare to what you're used to.
🧠 Final Thoughts
What stood out most to me testing Fellow wasn't any single feature, it was how little I had to think about which tool to use once a meeting moved off Teams. That consistency is the part Copilot can't offer today, since it's built around one ecosystem by design. My hope is that Fellow keeps expanding its native integrations, since the value here scales with how many places your meetings actually happen.
I'd also love your input: 👉 Do you regularly have meetings on platforms outside Teams, and how do you currently handle notes for those? 👉 Would a side by side comparison between Fellow and Copilot be useful for a future edition? 👉 What's the biggest friction point in your current meeting notes workflow?
